In the early morning hours, Saturday March 18th, firefighters were once again summoned downtown Clinton to fight a fire along a stretch of buildings adjacent to Town Hall. These buildings had previously been on fire and extensively damaged. Sources at the scene said the future of the buildings on the south side of Albert Street had been the subject of much debate since August 2016 when the original fire broke out. The cause of that fire was determined to be arson. The difficult decision by insurers whether to rebuild the damaged buildings has now been made with this latest fire outbreak.
There is extensive smoke damage that may be problematic for the municipal library to the rear of the fire location. Town Hall is also affected by the smoke.
Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries by residents in neighbouring apartments.
